Tenovus funded scientists and clinicians in Cardiff, Southampton, Liverpool and Bournemouth are acknowledged to be amongst the world's leading experts, and are undertaking new and unique research projects in the search to control and treat various cancers. They collaborate with research centres around the world and publish a wealth of scientific papers and informative literature.
Tenovus has published over 3,000 scientific and medical papers, sharing knowledge with other cancer specialists around the world. TCIC publishes a range of informative leaflets, in English and Welsh, helping people to understand their disease and treatments. Tenovus, also support research into application of clinical genetics to a defined population.
Doctor Jonathon Gray
Jonathon qualified in Dundee after medical training that included a year out studying for a degree in human genetics. After enjoying 3 years in general medicine, Jonathon was persuaded to take on a PhD in molecular genetics, again in Dundee. On completion of the PhD he moved to Wales to finish clinical training in medical genetics at the Institute of Medical Genetics under Professor Peter Harper. Jonathon established the Cancer Genetics Service for Wales (CGSW) and is a grantee of Tenovus.
Dr Ian Lewis
After graduating in Biochemistry from Cardiff University in 2000, Dr Lewis went on to complete a PhD in the mechanisms of drug resistance in breast cancer at the Tenovus Centre for Cancer Research in Cardiff. He then worked for a year as a postdoctoral scientist looking at drug resistance in a range of cancer types before joining Tenovus as Science Information Officer in December 2006. In his current role represents Tenovus on a wide range of collaborative organisations including the Cancer Campaigning Group, the Association of Medical Research Charities and the National Cancer Research Institute.
Dr Rachel Iredale
Rachel Iredale took her first degree in sociology and social policy at University College Dublin and completed her Master's degree at St. Patrick's College Maynooth. Her PhD was taken in Dublin. Rachel has been with CGSW as a Senior Research Fellow since 2000 and is involved in all aspects of research, with a particular interest in primary care, referral rates and exploring different models of service delivery.
Dr James Brennan
Dr Brennan is one of the most experienced psychologists working in UK oncology. He has been consultant clinical psychologist to the Bristol Oncology Centre for twelve years, and Hon Senior Lecturer in the Dept of Palliative Medicine at the University of Bristol, UK.
