The Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) is one of the largest research centres of Greece. The research and technological focus of the foundation is centred on selected areas of great scientific, social, and economic interest. Two Institutes of FORTH, with their relevant laboratories and groups, are to be involved and contribute to the coordinating action.
The Institute of Molecular Biology & Biotechnology (IMBB) was founded in 1983. The research conducted at the IMBB gives emphasis in the elucidation of basic life processes, in the decoding of the structure and function of genes (genomics & post-genomics) and finally in the discovery of the mechanisms that control the development of an organism. The Institute of Computer Science (ICS), since its establishment in 1983, is a pioneering contributor towards the deployment and adoption of Information Society Technologies in Greece and plays a leading role in worldwide efforts towards the development of an Information Society accessible and acceptable by all citizens.
Doctor Dimitris Kafetzopoulos
Dr. Dimitris Kafetzopoulos studied Biology at the University of Thessaloniki and Biochemistry at the Graduate School of the University of Toronto. In 1994, he was awarded the doctorate degree in Applied Biology and Biotechnology from the University of Crete for research in enzyme conversion of cell wall polysaccharides. Since 1997, he is a researcher at FORTH's Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology leading the Post-Genomic Research Laboratory. His research interests include drug development methodologies, molecular classification using DNA microarrays and multianalyte approaches in genotyping.
Doctor Manolis Tsiknakis
Dr. Manolis Tsiknakis has a Ph.D. in control systems engineering from the University of Bradford, UK. In 1992, he joined FORTH’s Institute of Computer Science (FORTH/ICS) where he is currently a Principal Researcher, coordinating the activities of the Center for eHealth Technologies of the Biomedical Informatics Laboratory.
Doctor Giorgos Potamias
Dr. Giorgos Patamias is a Principal Researcher at FORTH's Institute of Computer Science (FORTH/ICS). He was also an adjunct professor at the Dept. of Computer Science, University of Crete, Greece. He earned his PhD from the University of Patras, in the area of AI and Knowledge-based systems. He has been working in the field of knowledge-based systems, machine learning and data-mining with a number of publications to his credit.
